The Law Of Inertia
Today we are going to talk about a very famous law in physics, yes in physics with very powerful implications and insights in the human behavior and business field. It is the Newton’s law of Inertia.
it goes like this:
“An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion in the same speed and direction unless acted upon by an outside force”.
What makes this law useful in business?
First, it explains why people resist change. Naturally as human beings we to tend to follow the path of least resistance simply because it takes more energy to explore a new uncomfortable one.
This is to be considered when restructuring your business, implements new projects and lunching new products.
Don’t wait for all your customers to immediately welcome open-armed your new products…only %2.5 of customers are considered to be innovators and will do…All the others will take time follow.
The law of Inertia is very useful for all businesses especially start uppers who are expecting to have their business sky-rocketing right after being launched. Again, unfortunately that’s the exception rather than the rule.
According to the Small Business Administration (SBA) 20% of Small and Medium Enterprises quit from the first year and only 56% manage to survive the threshold of 5 years.
Any new endeavor takes time, energy and planning to deter the inner (within the company) or the outer resistance (on the marketplace) and if you try to rush things you accumulate some small winnings now but at the expense of the future.
“With people, slow is fast and fast is slow.” -Stephen Covey-
